OnSide builds special centres – Youth Zones – that bring young people together to socialise and take part in activities including art, dance, music and sport.
They are run exclusively for the use of young people in the communities that really need them and as a direct response to what young people say they want: somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. Volunteers in the centres help young people with advice and support and provide a listening ear for the many who have no-one else to confide in. Youth Zones also offer young people the opportunity to lead positive projects that support the local community.
We have supported Onside to open brand new Youth Zones in Wolverhampton, Chorley, Preston and The Wirrall as well as supporting existing Youth Zones in Manchester and Carlisle. We have also provided funding for the first Youth Zone to be built in London, The Future, which is expected to open in 2018.
We have made awards of nearly £4m to Onside to support new and existing Youth Zones.
